Backstory
The current flag of Comoros was adopted on January 7, 2001. It maintains the four colors representing the four islands of the archipelago: yellow for MohΓ©li, white for Mayotte (claimed by Comoros), red for Anjouan, and blue for Grande Comore. The crescent moon and stars symbolize Islam, the dominant religion, with the four stars also representing the four islands. The star and crescent were also featured on the previous flag.
